Restler predicts close win over Lopez-backed opponent

From this morning’s Heard Around Town:

* District Leader Lincoln Restler only won his race by 121 votes two years ago. At a fundraiser in Williamsburg on Tuesday, he predicted an even closer margin while chastising his opponent Community Board 1 Chairman Chris Olechowski’s political ally, Assemblyman Vito Lopez. “Our current party boss is worse than his predecessors,” Restler said. “They’re not running a candidate against me because we haven’t been effective or aren’t working hard. They’re running a candidate against me because they want another yes man, and we won’t have it!” Olechowski can count on about 6,200 votes from one of the largest Hasidic sects in Williamsburg, and he’ll be helped by a newly drawn district that eliminated some of Restler’s base in Fort Greene. But Restler was confident he could eke out a victory in 23 days. “Lopez keeps telling everyone that this race is all over,” Restler said. “We proved them wrong once and we will prove them wrong again.”

Restler shouldn’t have won the first time. The only reason he won last time was because he was running against a lazy do nothing staffer for Ed Towns. Rumor has it that Towns did nothing to help said staffer as a favor to Rep. Velasquez, who supported Restler. If Restler had run against a real opponent last time he would have lost. This election will prove that, and I would guess he’ll lose by nearly ten percent.

I met the youthful Mr. Restler for the first time a few weeks ago. In the heat and humidity of a particularly harsh New York City summer, Lincoln was walking from house to house, from block to block, day after day – meeting the people of our / his Brooklyn community…. asking them about their concerns and their problems, ….and asking them how to make what’s good even better. I was impressed: this kind of genuine dedication, energetic interest, and hands-on effort is rare among aspiring politicians (and among incumbents for that matter). Usually when they’re running for something you find them -at best- standing at a subway stop for a half-hour, handing out a few leaflets- IF you’re lucky. I was even more impressed when I checked the web and found that Lincoln Restler’s position was unsalaried! Mr. Restler has my support in the September 13th, 2012 election for Democratic State Committee (–which– for whatever reason, is a Thursday, and not a Tuesday). I wish Mr. Restler well, both now and in his future efforts. Our community needs more like him. Our community is lucky to have him!

Lincoln is going to LOSE, he is a “PHONY” he is part of the 1% and he is no “REFORMER” he is someone who wants “POWER”,

Vito Has the “POWER” and Lincoln and his fellow “REFORMERS” want that “POWER”

Vito needs to RESIGN and move to Florida he was once a “Reformer” and has lost his way, from those days around the family dinner table.
