Maybe before you write something you should check your facts. There are 3 Volunteer fire departments in Breezy Point, with a total of 8 Emergency Firetrucks and Ambulances, 7 of which are 4 wheel drive. Every sand lane is somewhere between 10-15 feet. The streets were too flooded that night for any kind of city firetruck to get down the road. Sand lanes were never an issue before or during the storm, the city responds all the time. What held up the city trucks that night was the water. The way i see it is we have 3 options:

1) FDNY gets amphibious fire trucks

2) We immediately destroy any area within a mile of water

3) We rebuild the areas in Breezy, Belle Harbor, Far Rockaway, Coney Island that were destroyed during the storm and we continue to live the way we had knowing that there may be a possibility of this happening again some day.

Before you draw up any plans for Breezy Point redux take a leisurely trip down to New Orleans. After you have enjoyed the scenery, people and nightlife go out to the Lower 9th Ward. Book a day there and check out as many of the Brad Pitt homes. They are fantastic and will perk you up. They are state-of-the-art survivable and energy-efficient. You might want to buy your plans or get a developer to do the re-build. Take your time, the City/State/Feds/
Bank&Insurance company will want to look seriously at the New Breezy.

Why didn't you challenge that pathetic piece of whale shit when he started lying about climate change? What's the point of interviewing someone if you're just going to lob softballs? I hope every house he ever lives in is destroyed by various catastrophes and he has to spend days clinging to trees in floods like Petra Nemcova.

Bob Turner was an idiot before he was elected and remains one. If Breezy is rebuilt the way it was, you're just asking for another disaster. FDNY coud not help the way it should have because there's no way for firefighting equipment to get to the homes - the shared lanes behind the homes are sand, they're too narrow there's one 4-wheel drive firefighting vehicle in all of Breezy. The fire only had to hop 3 or 4 feet between homes to wipe out the 111 structures.
