Above and Beyond
Good riddance to the time when women deserved special notice just for being the first in anything. New York is still far from full equality between the sexes in 2012, but the barriers that once kept women from male-dominated fields and careers are now noted mostly for being demolished. That’s why City & State is proud to honor a diverse selection of women who take a leading role in the public and civic life of New York. Some of them blazed a trail for women in areas like journalism and labor; others were able to follow in the path cleared by the trailblazers. From a list of over 500 nominations, these 25 women were chosen as our Above and Beyond winners not simply because they are women but because of what they have done. Read on to learn why.

I am proud about this initiative but I am in the same time concerned about your selections…Not one Arab woman …is it that the communities and all their women cannot be honored for Public and Civic Mind.
I, myself have been working on a friendly project with the NYPD for the Youth in order to create Leaders; I also organized cross-cultural events between different communities in New York. I still beleive in Tolerance, in Bridging Gaps making differences a richness and I love Democracy and Freedom and America. From New York a Tunisian Revolutionary Woman.
