Queens Councilman and congressional hopeful Dan Halloran has been called a lot of things in his career, but a “mega-Jew”? That’s what Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz labeled him when she saw that he posted photographs of famous rabbis and political leaders on his Facebook page after a three-day trip to Israel in August. “He went to Israel and now he thinks he’s a mega-Jew,” Koslowitz told a crowd of Democratic voters at the Forest Hills Jewish Center on Wednesday night. Koslowitz further explained she told a colleague her feelings about Halloran’s trip and that Halloran confronted her about it. “He asked me if I said that his trip to Israel was a stunt and I told him I didn’t say that – what I said was that he thinks he’s a mega-Jew!” she said. “He was startled because he thought I was going to deny saying that.” Halloran spokesman Kevin Ryan said he had not heard the story or the term and that Halloran did meet with a number of religious and government leaders during his visit. “The defense of Israel and all our allies is very important for Dan and his campaign platform for Congress,” Ryan said. “It’s really just the fact that he feels that the Obama administration is not doing a very good job of keeping a good relationship with Israel and letting countries like Iran know they can’t push them around.
