David Yassky Can’t Stop the K-Pop
Taxi and Limousine Commissioner David Yassky is Girls Generation’s newest fan.
We asked him at last week’s NY1 20th anniversary party whether he had seen the Korean pop group’s devastatingly viral video. He said no, and that he had started the New Yorker’s excellent K-pop profile, but didn’t finish it.
So we gave him some homework.
We can’t stop watching this either.
And now?
Sign him up for the tour.
“I’d prefer that our taxis avoid going ‘supersonic’ and ‘hypersonic,’ but the song is a lot of fun and has everything you’d want in a pop hit,” Yassky said. “Of course, I’m not at all surprised that it recognizes New York City’s status as a world taxi capital. My favorite lyric says it all, ‘to go anywhere freely…that’s right, even to the end of the universe.”
That’s right. He even quoted the lyrics:
Mr. Taxi Taxi Taxi Go very quickly quickly quickly,
I’m going at a speed that can’t be caught, oops!
Hey, can you even follow me?
Mr. Taxi Taxi Taxi Go very quickly quickly quickly,
The light is shining, but I can’t touch it,
It’s just supersonic n’ hypertonic.
I want you to take me away, you take me right now,
Mr. Taxi Taxi Taxi Go very quickly quickly quickly,
But it’s not gonna happen easily.
One, Two, Three, Here we go
To go anywhere freely,
That’s right, even to the end of the universe.
It’s just as I wished, why am I so anxious?
And I don’t know why, and I don’t know why (don’t know why)
You’ll follow me, right?
I don’t wanna say good-bye (Good-bye) Good-bye (I don’t wanna say good-bye)
