DiNapoli raises off of approaching tax deadline

It’s almost April 15! Don’t forget to file your taxes. And if you get a fat check from the government, don’t forget to send a little sweetness to your favorite comptroller.

Comptroller Tom DiNapoli is calling all “Taxpayers for DiNapoli” to join him on April 11 for a fundraiser in support of his 2014 re-election campaign. You want audits? We got audits! Cautiously worded statements about the state budget? Got ‘em! Simmering tension with the Cuomo administration over pension reform? Oh, you betcha.

DiNapoli is asking his supporters to give as low as $100 or as much $2,500. Not quite as much as a recent Manhattan fundraiser held by Cuomo, where donors were asked to give up to $15,000.

The comptroller’s event will be held at The Woodlands in Woodbury, in DiNapoli’s old Nassau County stronghold. So far, according to Facebook, 35 of the 4,725 invitees will be attending, while 44 are just maybes.  One supporter, Jim King from Plattsburgh, wants DiNapoli to run for governor. Hey now!
