Dormitory Authority Now Officially DASNY
At a reception following the opening panel discussion at the MWBE conference, Paul Williams confirmed to City & State that the state dormitory authority, of which he is president and CEO, has officially rebranded itself as just DASNY since the authority’s purview now extends far beyond the purpose for which it was originally formed in 1944 under Governor Thomas Dewey: the financing and construction of dormitories. Nowadays, DASNY, one of America’s largest authorities in terms of of its construction and financial input, issues municipal bonds and provides a host of services and support for public and nonprofit universities throughout the state, not-for-profit healthcare facilities, and the state’s court facilities. Its wide-ranging work also includes the joint operation of an energy-management program with NYSERDA and running a tax-exempt equipment leasing program.
