A Grimm Situation [UPDATED]

* A source who attended a New York AFL-CIO breakfast for the state’s congressional delegation yesterday related to us a funny – and rather awkward – moment. During the breakfast, Long Island Democratic Congressman Steve Israel announced that he would have to leave early in order to go to a meeting of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the House Democrats’ election arm, which Israel chairs. “But no one here should worry,” Israel reassured fellow delegation members, according to our source, referring to the fact that the DCCC is targeting a number of Republican incumbents who were in attendance. While most people laughed, Staten Island Republican Congressman Michael Grimm – who has been targeted with repeated attacks by the DCCC – sat stone-faced. “You’re not laughing, Grimm,” Israel said, poking at his Republican colleague. According to our source, Grimm then picked up and wielded a butter knife from a dining table at the catered event, looked at Israel, and said simply, “I’m not laughing.”  Responded Israel: “The difference between you and my Democratic colleagues is that you actually show the knife.” A spokeswoman for Grimm confirmed our source’s account of the event.

UPDATE:

A spokesman for the campaign of Democrat Mark Murphy, who is running against Grimm, passed along the below statement:

“Seems like Congressman Grimm is into slashing these days. Slashing social security and medicare, slashing taxes for the wealthiest americans and slashing regulations for corporations who are shipping our jobs overseas. The only things Congressman Grimm can’t seem to slash are the FBI inquiries into his fundraising and his legal defense costs,” said Murphy spokesman Nathan Smith.

    If only California liberal Mark Murphy could slash the growing awareness that he only just moved to Staten Island months ago, and that he is an ardent ObamaCare supporter who opposes its repeal. Oh sorry, I forgot to mention the lien placed on his house in California on 8/16/2007 by the County Of Los Angeles (Lien ID: 20071926142) for not paying his taxes! Ooops!

      Ms. Po forgot to mention Rep. Michale Grimm’s free trip to Cyprus given to him by an indicted briber, and his campaign funding “irregularities, and his appearance at the Sea of Galilee drunken skinny-dipping party, and the fact that his chief fundraiser Ofer Biton has been arrested, and that Grimm is being investigated by the FBI and a Brooklyn grand jury, and that he has been accused of accepting envelopes of cash on street corners. So what are a few back taxes compared to that?
