Is Christine Quinn Going National?
Janos Marton, City & State‘s correspondent at the DNC Convention reports:
Is Christine Quinn going national? Yesterday afternoon the New York City Council Speaker held a reception at the Halcyon Restaurant in Charlotte, N.C., less than two blocks away from the convention center where the Democratic National Convention is being staged. The event, hosted by Sally Susman, a top executive at Pfizer and Quinn’s finance chair, was reportedly intended to introduce Quinn to Democratic Party activists from around the country and to expand her brand beyond New York City as she prepares her 2013 run for mayor. Speaking in the swanky venue nestled on the second floor of the Mint Museum, Quinn focused on her work as an organizer for LGBT issues, noting that over 500 of the Democratic delegates are LGBT, and also discussed issues of common concern among urban leaders, such as gun violence. Newark Mayor Cory Booker was among the 40 to 50 people in attendance. Despite the event’s apparent goal, a number of New Yorkers were in the crowd.
