John Liu Hopes Federal Investigation Will Be Over By Early 2013

A source passed along an advance copy of a radio interview set to air tonight, in which Comptroller John Liu says he hopes the federal investigation into his fundraising will be finished before the 2013 mayoral race kicks into gear.

“I’m hoping by the beginning of the year [in 2013], which will still be clear enough to get through the political season,” Liu tells radio host Zev Brenner.

Liu also says that he’s 100 percent in for a mayoral run — and expects that his campaign will be “fully funded” to max out on fundraising for a Democratic primaryby the end of 2012.

“We are moving full-speed ahead,” Liu added. “The big election, believe it or not, is now 57 weeks away. We’re fully prepared for it.”

The full, 13-minute interview can be heard tonight at 8 p.m. on AM 620 on the show Talkline with Zev Brenner. One especially amusing part comes when Brenner asks Liu about the New York Post‘s frequently negative coverage of Liu’s office and campaign.

“Listen, I appreciate all that attention from the New York Post,” Liu says. “We respectfully request that they spell the name right. It’s L-I-U. And throw in a photo if you can.”
