New York City Power 100 Poll

Written by City & State on . Posted in Blog, Daily.

In the Dec. 3 edition of City & State, we will present our first-ever list of the 100 most powerful figures in New York City government and politics. We’re currently compiling the list, and we want your input as to who should be on the list. For the next week and a half, you can vote each day for those who you think we should include. Today’s poll includes select members of the New York City Council. You can vote for as many people as you like. If we left anyone out, let us know — and tell us why he or she should be included — in the comments section below or via email at editor@cityandstateny.com.

So what’s Jimmy Vacca? Chopped livuh? He’s the Energizer Bunny of electeds, running the council transportation committee and working his Bronx district almost 24/7…. and how do I stop with this stars thing???

    • Ana Maria Cruz

I have to agree with Bob Jimmy Vacca is definitely active amongst the council members.

  • Bob Nolan

Congrats for finding room for ONLY one Bronx CC member! Jimmy Vacca is my CM and like James Bond, nobody does it better. Another Manhattan centric so called poll. You should have just listed the whole N.Y. delegation and sent it around Manhattan island.

    • Beadie Markowitz

      Dear City and State,
In many ways, your list is patently absurd. Why not throw all 51 members up there and see what happens instead of impressing your own (faulty) judgment upon the process.
      Really

Joel Rivera is the Bronx winner

YES,IT MUST BE JOEL RIVERA….THE BRONX NEEDS HIM!!!

  • Avirex

Charles barron. The nation thought he was enough a threat for all 3 branches of government to align to stop him( historical and powerful). He is consitent with brutal honesty and he stand up for the interest of all people always.

  • http://www.facebook.com/filicia.guitian Filicia Scherello Guitian

Councilman Vinny Ignizo of Staten Island is truly there for his constituents and his borough. He’s been amazing through SANDY – but truthfully always there. He is genuinely kind and cares for his community.

  • http://www.facebook.com/robert.roth Robert Roth

Jimmy Vacca. As Chair of the Transportation Committee, he provides the most powerful counterpoint to JSK.

David Greenfield. Represents a constituency that overwhelmingly supports him.

  • Sandra Garbarino

Please add Vincent Ignizio, Staten Island South Shore Councilman, aka The Bomb. This man works well with others, is out in the open helping his constituents, family oriented, selfless, and an all around hard working man.

  • Gia grande

    Councilman Vincent Ignizio

  • joan graves

WHERE IS MY BOSS…………..VINCENT IGNIZIO?????????????????? I love Jimmy Oddo, and I voted for him, but c’mon he works as hard and side by side w/Jimmy…………..

It really doesnt matter who gets on the Power 100 list. These politicians must fight for the voiceless in their respective boroughs and at the National level. Being on a list is not going to solve matters like; Poverty, Homelessness, Joblessness, Aids, Food pantry turning hungry people away. SO DO YOU REALLY CARE WHO GETS ON THIS LIST?

  • yoruba7

James Vacca is one of the hardest working councilmen

  • Margie

Joel Rivera he is the Bronx!

  • Kalliep

Peter Valone gets my vote because he truly cares about the citizens of New York through his efforts to end the practice of fluoridating using the toxic waste, hydrofluorosilicic acid. HSFA has never had any toxicology studies or safety tests for long term use in tap water. He is looking out for and protecting the citizens before politics. An admirable, houorable man in my opinion. visit http://www.fluoridealert.org

Peter Vallone, he is out to end flouridation of the water supply.

  • NYS Institute On Disability

I would like to nominate Jon R. Del Giorno as one of the most powerful figures in NYC Government and politics. He has demonstrated leadership skills in many areas of NYC life.
For example, he has helped many non-profits in organizing fund raising and seeking out Board Members for non-profits. He has also advocated for such community issues as the raising of money for the establishment of a community center.
He has brought multi-cultural groups together to resolve conflictsand to reduce racial tensions.
He has brought city and state agencies together to improve the qualty of life in the community and has worked pro-bono for non-profits.

  • Audrey

Peter Vallone is my hero because he has more courage than 99% of politicians, demonstrated by his strong stand against the systemic poisoning of the people through “fluoridation”. The research in the last decade finding neurodevelopmental harm to fetuses and babies from fluoride is overwhelming, especially to malnourished children—in other words, the poor…who can neither afford healthy food nor expensive water filtration systems to remove toxic chemicals delivered in their water. So their babies’ brains get a double hit and poor children’s IQs drop ever more (based on 26 studies reviewed by a team of researchers at Harvard School of Public Health) as the fluoride passes the blood brain barrier to do permanent harm to both intelligence and behavior. The darker the skin, the greater the negative effects of fluoride, other studies have found (maybe because of a Vitamin D deficiency?) and further diminishes the ability of children of poor families to succeed in school. More and more of these children are being given powerful drugs to control behavior, but no studies have ever looked into the synergistic effect of these medications when combined with the drug fluoride. Fluoride is a drug, whether in water or in toothpaste, but the fluoridation chemicals added to water are NOT pharmaceutical grade and NOT approved by the FDA for either safety or effectiveness. Our children deserve better! Peter Vallone is a champion for standing up to the powerful (and filthy rich) fluoride lobby that have no intention of protecting the best interests of our children whatsoever. Peter Vallone does and is.

  • Eliott Castro

I see Bob Kappstatter is doing Vacca’s bidding since he owes his job to him after getting fired by the NY Daily News…Are there any real, true and honest journalist out there anymore?

Our Bronx Hero, Joel Rivera works Tirelessly for his Community. We are All so Greatfully Lucky and Blessed to Have an Angel in Flesh as Our Leader <3

  • oscar

Joel Rivera is the Bronx winner !!!!!!!!!!!

  • ann

Anyone standing up against fluoridation has my vote. It takes balls, courage and moral fiber to not put toxic waste from scrubber smoke stacks into public water system.
Keep it up. Your kids and their kids will thank you.
We are not fluoride deprived, sing with me WE ARE NOT fluoride deprived!

  • Jim/Margaret Edwards/Seydel

Good luck Peter, we in the North Coast of NSW, Australia are well behind you & your endeavours to rid NY of the dreaded toxin of fluoride in the water!

  • Mimi

    JOEL RIVERA GOT MY SUPPORT!!!!!

Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer is a tireless advocate for Queens and for NYC. He is a courageous advocate for equality and a champion of civil rights. Arguably one of the most active NYC City Council and he is loved and respected by constituents, businesses, agencies, and communities across the NYC.

    Hello!

I’ve started the petition “Deval Laurdine Patrick, Governor of Massachusetts: Stop Forced Drinking Water Fluoridation in Massachusetts!” and need your help to get it off the ground.
Will you please take 30 seconds to sign it right now whether you are Massachusetts residents or not? Here’s the link:
    http://www.change.org/petitions/deval-laurdine-patrick-governor-of-massachusetts-stop-forced-drinking-water-fluoridation-in-massachusetts

    Here’s why
    it’s important:
I am Ethiopian-American and my family and I are fluoride pollution victims. In June 23, 2012 I went to The Hague, The Netherlands to attend a Talk Show on behalf of Ethiopian residents in Wonji , Wonji/Showa and Metehara fluoride &Asbestos victims to express their horror and bring awareness to the EthiopianDiaspora and to the Dutch public. 14 million Ethiopian residents are affected in Ethiopia from fluoride pollution and many are paralyzed-bed-ridden over 40 years suffering from skeletal fluorosis & dental fluorosis. Most children
there have lower IQ & lost all their teeth at age of 30. In 2007, I got
donation of 550 wheelchairs from “Free Wheelchair Mission” to those
paralyzed victims who were crawling on the street.

Now,living in Massachusetts since 1990, I am forcibly consuming fluoride with my family that is devastating to us to be second round victims of fluoride
poisoning. I had knee surgery in Massachusetts but it is getting worse since I
visited my doctor this month. My children & I have many cavities & lost
teeth due to fluoride. So, I am appealing for your help in a matter of urgency
because I don’t want to see residents of Massachusetts go through as Wonji
residents. Europe has banned fluoride; why don’t we? Please visit my face
    book” Free Fluoride World”.

  • Moon

Good Luck To Joel Rivera!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

  • H.L.S

I would say joel rivera heard lots of great things this man has done for the bronx community he got my vote!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/LOvelikeGod Liz Mercedes

Joel Rivera is my choice and thanks to the south bronx network has inform me of all His effort to making the city a better place for the people

  • Eileen Melendez

I voted for Joel Rivera. He is the kind of leader that responds to all communities. In his soft demeanor he gets the job done!! Don’t mistake his kindness for weakness. As the former Chair of Health he has negotiated budgets that help save lives, and jobs. I’ve withnessed this young leader in action. Currently as the Chair of Rules he continues to pave the way for equality in City agency appointments. We need a Hispanic in a City Wide office. Joel Rivera gets my vote for that too!!!!

  • Jacob Sanchez

I was torn on who to vote for. Some of the members I’ve heard of and others I haven’t. James Oddo has done a great job. Christine Quinn is likely to be our next Mayor but ultimately I chose to vote for Joel Rivera. I’ve heard about him and the work that he does. From what I hear, he is a young and humble politician. I’m interested in seeing how the next generation of political leadership in our city will shape out to be. Maybe Joel Rivera will be a major part of this cities future.

  • Jessica

I voted for Joel Rivera because he represents the voice of Latinos across NYC and for Dan Garodnick because he seems like he really cares about doing a great job for New Yorkers.

  • Destiny Ramos

Joel Rivera + NYC Voters = Success. I was amazed to learn more about Joel’s history. Being elected at the age of 22 and then becoming the Majority Leader. That’s amazing. Then he teamed up with Dr Oz to create Health Corp to battle obesity in our kids and even ran the NYC Marathon and raised money for Team for Kids with the NY Road Runners. That’s Leadership. He got my vote the old fashion way, by earning it.
