Michael Blake, a former senior staffer to President Barack Obama, has joined Reshma Saujani’s public advocate campaign in New York City as her campaign manager.
Blake, a Bronx native, played a key role in both of Obama’s presidential campaigns, including running the ground game in the pivotal state of Iowa in 2008, which put the candidate on the path to the presidency. “At just 25 years old, Michael Blake may have more to do with Barack Obama’s chances of becoming president than anyone besides the candidate himself,” a reporter wrote in a 2007 Time magazine story.
Now Blake, who also served as a deputy director for Obama’s presidential re-election campaign, will help Saujani take on state Sen. Daniel Squadron and City Councilwoman Letitia James.
“Michael Blake has an unrivaled track record of successful grassroots coalition-building, from his time organizing at the Davidson Community Center in the Bronx to his time turning out voters across the country to reelect our president,” Saujani said in a statement. “Blake is incredibly effective at reaching people and inspiring passionate, broad-based support.”
