Schreibman Slams Gibson for Boosting New Nuclear Power Plant
Julian Schreibman, the Democratic challenger to Republican Rep. Chris Gibson, has made it a point to attack the incumbent for his positions on women’s issues, Medicare and what he calls a “Tea Party agenda.” In the tight race, which the Cook Political Report calls a “toss-up,” Schreibman is also focusing on at least one key local issue that he also says differentiates him from Gibson: nuclear energy. “There is one particular thing that Congressman Gibson has championed and that is demonstrative of what his more extreme priorities are, and that’s to build a new nuclear plant in upstate New York, somewhere in the Hudson Valley, apparently,” Schreibman said. “This is not the direction that folks in this region want to go in terms of their energy or their environmental policy, but it is his – you know, “pet project” may not emphasize enough how important this seems to be to him. It’s something that voters in this region, when they hear about it, that’s not something they’re embracing.” Gibson’s campaign did not respond to requests for comment.
