Sephardic Jewish Group Targets Barron [UPDATED]
In recent days, the Brooklyn-based Sephardic Community Federation (a group formerly run by New York City Councilman David Greenfield, a strong opponent of Barron) spent nearly $15,000 in independent expenditures opposing Barron’s candidacy.
Here’s an ad that ran in several Jewish newspapers over the weekend, including the Jewish Voice. I’m also told by a source who passed along the ad that a similar looking mailer has been sent to thousands of Jewish homes across Congressional District 8, where Barron is running against Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries.
UPDATE: Eric Kuo tweeted a copy of the mailer, which is quite aggressive, declaring “Charles Barron Hates You.”
Greenfield, at a recent press conference featuring Jewish officials denouncing Barron, called him “an anti-Semite, who’s a hate-monger and who’s a bigot.”
The Sephardic Community Federation also took in $6, 000 in donations in recent days — including $1,000 from Council Lew Fidler’s state Senate campaign account. Fidler, a Democrat, narrowly lost a special election this spring to Republican State Sen. David Storobin.
