New York’s Next Indicted Elected Official Contest Ends With Three Winners
October 1, 2014

It took a whole 91 days for another member of New York State’s Legislature to be charged with a crime, but yesterday the inevitable finally occurred, which means that City & State’s Next Indicted Elected Official Contest has come to a not-so-dramatic end.

And while the people of New York are once again losers as a result of their state’s rampant political corruption, for once a winner emerges from the muck—and not just one, but three!

Out of the more than 400 entries City & State received, three of its readers correctly identified Assemblyman William Scarborough of Queens as the next elected official to be indicted: Colin Campbell, Soo Ji Lee and Terence Cullen.

While the rules of the contest stated that the winner would be whoever submitted the correct name first, City & State decided that since our elected officials don’t follow the rules, we don’t have to either. Thus, we are awarding the grand prize of a free dinner with City & State editor-in-chief Morgan Pehme and Road to SOMOS/El Camino a SOMOS editor Gerson Borrero at the police-themed 46th Street Station House restaurant in Manhattan to all three of our soothsayers of sleaze. Because Campbell submitted the first correct entry, he will also be allowed to bring a guest.

“On behalf of City & State, I congratulate Colin, Soo Ji and Terence, and thank all of our readers who took the time to participate in this contest,” said Pehme. “There were so many plausible guesses submitted that we have referred a full list of the entries we received to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and other relevant law enforcement agencies. Based upon this information, it is likely that there will be a host of runners-up for this contest very soon.”

“I look forward to sharing a hearty dinner of bread, water and green mac n’ cheese with our three lucky-ish winners,” said Borrero. “If Assemblyman Scarborough wants to join us too, he’s welcome. After all, this dinner is all thanks to him.”
