We learned from the last two years that there is so much to discuss in terms of what New York can expect in terms of improving upon our housing, building, construction, transportation and more. City & State’s Rebuilding New York Summit will feature discussions that dissect the biggest infrastructure issues, including funding for repairs, use of MWBEs, policy recommendations, and where the city and state has seen its biggest successes and shortcomings.

Rethinking New York’s Transportation Systems

New York is taking steps to meet its growing transportation infrastructure needs. The city is revamping its bus and subway network, increasing ferry routes, and expanding bike sharing options to the outer boroughs. Albany has also announced an historic $32.8 billion, five-year capital plan for programs that refocus investments on state and local roads and bridges in smaller municipalities and help reconnect neighborhoods and facilitate regional economic growth, while creating thousands of new jobs. Which of these top transportation projects are being prioritized and where are the opportunities for contractors?

Innovation in NY Rebuilding:  Construction, Development & Workforce

New York is always in a state of constant rebuilding.  How can new technologies, practices and other developments be harnessed to improve efficiency, health & safety measures, sustainability, and outcomes for the growth of NY?  What Quality of Life Improvements are being offered in affordable housing?  What jobs are most needed in construction with the onset of new innovations and how do the new health and safety training requirements impact the workforce? How can we make our systems more accessible for all New Yorkers? How are companies working with their public officials and labor unions to make communities aware of these new job opportunities and what role does MWBEs play in this?

  • Alexandria Perotti, Executive Director of Corporate Initiatives & Strategic Planning, Holt Construction (moderator)
  • Dan Garodnick, Director of the New York City Department of City Planning and Chair of the City Planning Commission

The Public-Private Partnerships Bringing Projects to Life in New York

The new Infrastructure bill should clear the way for several high-profile projects including the extension of Second Avenue subway in Manhattan and a plan to build a new rail tunnel linking New York and New Jersey. The sprawling bill has funds for high-speed internet, climate resiliency projects, energy grid improvements, transportation projects and environmental programs. We discuss these public-private partnerships involved with the new bill, others in progress including new projects to house the homeless, and tips on inclusion.

  • Patrick B. Jenkins, President, Patrick B. Jenkins & Associates (moderator)
  • Nivardo Lopez, Deputy Secretary for Transportation to Governor Kathy Hochul
