New York’s transit systems were hit especially hard during the pandemic.  There were also more cars, bikes and scooters on the road and massive improvements were made to existing systems.  The pandemic gave us a chance to re-examine and enhance transportation systems across the city and state.  This event will bring together experts across sectors to assess the current state of New York’s transportation systems, break down recent legislative actions, and look towards the future of all things coming and going in New York.

Connecting All of New York

This panel will explore the trend of creating innovative infrastructure projects to help connect low-income, and minority communities with all of New York. Gov. Kathy Hochul has promised $3 billion in funding for infrastructure projects that reunite neighborhoods, promote economic growth and revitalize urban centers. All boroughs have received many different types of alternative transportation which has helped communities commute and connect more easily. The MTA is making more stations accessible, adding elevators to many stations and upgrading/adding accessibility features which makes travel much easier for vulnerable and disabled riders, as well as adding other paratransit services. Experts from government, construction and community development groups will come together to explain how this effort is unfolding in our region.

  • Patrick B. Jenkins, President, Patrick B. Jenkins & Associates (moderator)
  • Christina Curry, Commissioner, New York City Mayor's Office for People With Disabilities
  • Selvena N. Brooks-Powers, Chair, New York City Council Transportation and Infrastructure Committee
