Building Electrification in New York

What Do We Need To Build?  With the CLCPA setting forth ambitious goals on what New York needs to achieve economy-wide at milestones by 2030, 2040 and 2050, critical questions remain.  The grid must integrate renewables at a scale never before seen, at the same time the State is transitioning from the internal combustion engine to EVs, and in parallel electrifying heat.  This panel of experts discusses large scale renewable projects, scaling electric transmission & distribution, the electric vehicle highway roadmap, and battery and storage technology advances. Does the current interconnection process pose a risk to achieving CLCPA goals in the expected timeframe? What changes are needed to enable faster interconnections?  How does our supply chain need to adapt?  Is our workforce ready for the scale that is predicted?  How are we thinking about grid reliability? How will cost be mitigated, and what do we need to think about? What is the role of Energy Efficiency and Demand Response?

  • Liz Benjamin, Managing Director, Marathon Strategies (Moderator)
  • Bart Franey, Vice President, Clean Energy Development National Grid

Affordability and Equity

Customer Impacts, Economic Development, Equity and Inclusion. Following our discussion on what we need to build, this panel focuses on impacts to business in the state, to the state’s economic development interests, to small businesses, and to the average customer. How do we make sure no one is left behind, especially our most vulnerable customers? How will policy decisions affect affordable housing? What sources of funding exist? What do customers need to know? How can cost impacts be mitigated?
