New York’s Path to Achieve Clean Energy Goals
New York is on a path to achieving a zero-emission electricity sector by 2040, including 70 percent renewable energy generation by 2030, and economy-wide carbon neutrality by mid-century. What is New York doing to oppose climate change across industries — making our buildings more energy efficient, reducing waste and transportation emissions, creating and storing renewable energy, and developing our coastal resiliency division to protect New York from more intense storms and the worst effects of climate change. Where are the conversations on nuclear energy and what are the newest solutions on the horizon, and what is already here that we need to know about?
- Rich Kassel, Partner, AJW (Moderator)
- John O’Leary, Deputy Secretary for Energy & Environment, Office of the Governor of New York
- Senator Pete Harckham, Chair, Environmental Conservation Committees
- Assembly Member Carrie Woerner, Sponsor of Clean Energy Legislation

Leading the way in Offshore Winds
The growing offshore wind industry has an essential role to play in New York’s move to clean energy over the coming years. Nationally, enough offshore wind will be built in just nine years to power 10 million homes with clean, renewable energy. A new industry will be created in the US, and in particular across New York state to make this happen, with the potential to equitably distribute economic benefits to workers, utility customers, and communities.
- Ken Lovett, Partner, Ichor Strategies (Moderator)
- Gregory Lampman, Director, Offshore Wind, NYSERDA
- Girish Behal, VP Projects & Business Development, New York Power Authority
- Nse Esema, Senior Vice President, Green Economy, New York City Economic Development

Achieving Climate Smart Communities
Climate smart communities aim to operate as efficiently as possible. By using alternative and efficient energy, New York can help make their communities more greener, livable, equitable, and resilient to the effects of climate change. New York’s zero-emission electricity system will use renewable energy to power our homes, offices, schools, health facilities, and vehicles. And finally, we will discuss ideas to build resilient cities and communities designed to anticipate and respond to emergencies, and issues.
- Assembly Member Didi Barrett, Chair, Committee on Energy
- Julia Casagrande, Deputy Director for Clean Energy, Mayor's Office of Climate and Environmental Justice
- Assembly Member Anna Kelles, District 125, Clean Energy Advocate

New York’s Energy: Impact, Economic Development + Workforce
What are the impacts to NY's small businesses, and to the average customer? How do we make sure no one is left behind, how can cost impacts be mitigated, and how will policy decisions affect affordable housing? What jobs need to be set up that make sense with national incentives to effectively support a workforce prepared to meet project development and generation facility needs? What are the workforce training and apprenticeship programs that are needed for a fair transition for both workers, all communities and those displaced by the clean energy transition? How does the energy industry help promote economic development and facilitate investments in energy efficiency?
- David Whipple, Senior Director, Industry Development; Clean Technology & Renewable - Cleantech and Renewable Energy, Empire State Development
- Sarah Crowell, Program Manager, New York Office of Renewable Energy Siting
- Sandy Nurse, Chair, Committee on Sanitation and Solid Waste Management
- TBA, Community Offshore Wind
- Jeff Lee Romer, Director of Local Content, Offshore Wind at Invenergy

Protecting New York from Climate Threats and Reducing Carbon Emissions
The future of New York depends on reducing emissions and adapting to the obvious threat of climate change. New York has established plans to implement new infrastructures and is launching programs to explore housing mobility and land acquisition options including making solar-generated electricity accessible and affordable for all New York. We have all seen great strides in addressing greener ways to help New Yorkers get around. From pizza to electric ovens, our daily lives have all been and will continue to be affected. What is working, what is coming up, and what are new ideas in this area?
