Modernizing the Rebuilding and Construction Industry

The last few years has given New York time to reflect on previous practices in all industries including effectively addressing New York’s building industry. Our industry experts will provide information related to what they are focused on including equity in building, safety and security measures, management of assets for capital and public-private projects currently slated. This discussion will also include the integration of NYC's Local Law 97, the state's recent ban on gas hookups in new construction, and other climate programs needed to modernize New York's building and construction industry in order to meet our goals for affordable housing and rebuilding New York.

Rethinking New York’s Transportation Systems

New York is taking steps to meet its growing transportation infrastructure needs. The city is revamping its bus and subway network, increasing ferry routes, expanding bike sharing options to the outer boroughs and offering more accessibility options. Also the JFK Redevelopment project and airport initiatives are moving along. Albany has also announced an historic $32.8 billion, five-year capital plan for programs that refocus investments on state and local roads and bridges in smaller municipalities and help reconnect neighborhoods and facilitate regional economic growth, while creating thousands of new jobs. Which of these top transportation projects are being prioritized and where are the opportunities for contractors? What are the new technologies that are impacting how we travel safely and timely, and ways we access information while doing so?

  • Matthew W. Daus, Partner, Chair of Transportation, Windels Marx Lane Mittendorf, LLP (Moderator)
  • Ydanis Rodriguez, Commissioner, New York City Department of Transportation
  • Selvena N. Brooks-Powers, Chair, New York City Council Transportation and Infrastructure Committee
