What New York officials are saying about the Republican tax deal
On Wednesday, congressional Republican leaders announced that they had reached a compromise between the House and Senate tax plans. Republicans are hoping to vote on the consensus bill before the end of the year, but Democrats are pushing for the vote to be delayed until Doug Jones, the newly elected senator of Alabama, is seated. Below are the reactions from New York lawmakers to the new Republican tax bill:

U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer
In 2010, Leader McConnell said that it would be “gamesmanship” to pursue big-ticket legislation before Scott Brown was seated. We hope he will do as Senator Reid did & honor the wishes of the people of Alabama this year. pic.twitter.com/JNCDwdm8yC

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand
Republicans should not rush to pass their terrible tax plan until @GDouglasJones is seated in the Senate.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio
We're down to the wire: @realDonaldTrump and the @GOP are closer than ever to sneaking their disastrous #GOPTaxPlan into law. We need your voices now. Stand up for working families, stand up for seniors, make yourselves heard. https://t.co/EsVaVgWu3D

Rep. Adriano Espaillat
Instead of rushing to pass the terrible #GOPTaxScam, @SenateGOP should slow down and wait to hold a vote until #ALSen Doug Jones is seated.

.@SenateMajLdr McConnell should follow his own advice and delay the #GOPTaxScam vote until #ALSen-elect Doug Jones is seated. pic.twitter.com/PJowIsrW03

Rep. Paul Tonko
Drilling the #ArcticRefuge has no place in the tax bill. The #GOPTaxScam would irreparably damage and even destroy a natural treasure that we have defended for decades. #ProtectTheArctic #ANWR

Rep. Louise Slaughter
What’s clear is that this bill would raise taxes on tens of millions of middle-class households, hurt economic growth nationwide, and cut taxes for the wealthiest one percent even further.

Rep. John Faso
Pursuing higher education has long been considered a path toward achieving the American dream. I signed two letters sent to the tax reform conferees in support of maintaining tax benefits designed to make higher education more affordable. https://t.co/018GwZmXpL
