Editor’s note: City & State wins nine awards at the New York Press Association’s 2022 Better Newspaper Contest

The honors were handed out in Albany this past weekend.

City & State is proud to announce that its editorial and production teams won nine awards at the New York Press Association’s 2022 Better Newspaper Contest in Albany this past weekend.

The honors, distributed during NYPA’s annual spring conference and trade show, were given out in the following chronological order: 

1. Annie McDonough won first place for Coverage of Local Government in Division 1. 

2. Rebecca Lewis, Jeff Coltin and Annie McDonough won third place for Politics/Election Coverage.

3. Andrew Horton and Alex Law won second place for Graphic Illustration.

4. Jeff Coltin won first place for Personality Profile.

5. City & State won second place for Overall Magazine Excellence.

6. City & State won first place for Best Themed Issue. 

7. Shantel Destra won third place for Rookie Reporter of the Year.

8. Sahalie Donaldson won second place for Rookie Reporter of the Year.

9. Jeff Coltin won first place for Writer of the Year.

These awards are well deserved and a great source of pride for all of us at City & State. Our readers get the best political journalism coverage daily thanks to the exceptional work of our editorial and production teams.  

We also want to acknowledge Managing Editor Eric Holmberg for compiling this year's entries and salute him, Deputy Managing Editor Holly Pretsky and Art Director Andrew Horton for their leadership.
