New York politics certainly has its boogeymen this Halloween – though who depends on who you ask. For the left, that boogeyman is President Donald Trump, and for the right, that’s New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. But if neither of those are your cup of tea, New York politics never fails to provide plenty of entertainment – and therefore, Halloween costume ideas. Here’s some inspiration for this spooky season.

Rent freeze

Whether this is celebratory or scary is in the eye of the beholder, but if you get some ice packs, fake money and bundle up for the cold, you’ll be paying tribute to the policy New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani championed on the campaign trail.

Pied-à-terre letter

Based on the outrage of thousands of New Yorkers who received this letter (mistakenly or not), this would certainly be scary for people fortunate enough to own multiple properties.

Polka dot dress woman

Protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement this Halloween with a nod to this woman who stood in front of an ICE armored vehicle last year. Find a black and white polka dot dress and flip everyone the bird for good measure.

If anyone doesn’t know who you’re dressed as, just tell them you’re “the ghost of Brooklyn Democratic Party chairs past.”

Alternatively, anyone can do this costume, because apparently, the rules don’t matter – anyone can be chair! Just write “Brooklyn Democratic Party chair” on a T-shirt and you’ve got the job. Congrats!
