Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh was picked by Brooklyn Democratic leaders to replace state Sen. Daniel Squadron, who resigned in August, but Kavanagh may not be alone on the ballot in November. In one of her first official moves as newly elected chairwoman of the Manhattan Republican Party, Andrea Catsimatidis nominated Analicia Alexander to run for the open seat.

Alexander was a bridesmaid at Catsimatidis’ 2011 wedding to Christopher Nixon Cox, son of state Republican Party Chairman Ed Cox. Greenpoint resident Alexander does not appear to have any political experience, and currently works as an associate pre-K teacher in Park Slope. Kavanagh, a Democrat who has served in the Assembly since 2007, is expected to cruise to victory in the heavily Democratic district.
