New York City Councilman Ritchie Torres is doing something right on social media.

The young up-and-comer spiked in Twitter mentions in Global Strategy Group's latest analysis of the council speaker candidates' Twitter trends, with a total 1,670 mentions, to put him in the lead during the two-week period from Nov. 24 to Dec. 7. That’s up from just 551 mentions during the previous two-week period.

Torres also gained the most followers, seeing an uptick of 85 new people, to bring his total to 10,972. Although that still leaves him trailing by quite a lot behind Councilman Jumaane Williams, whose 18,197 followers give him a very comfortable lead in the rankings.

Unfortunately for Torres, his positive performance on social media still didn’t earn the most retweeted title. That once again goes to Councilman Mark Levine, who consistently puts out tweetable content that lands him in the top spot.
