Road-tripping Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado will go a little farther south than even Staten Island on Wednesday. He’s headed to Washington D.C. for the annual National Lieutenant Governors Association meeting, where second-in-commands from around the country gather to talk about their jobs. “I told them that we were going to have classes on how to shoot down a plane, how to put sugar in a car engine and how to perform fake CPR,” one-time LG and former Gov. David Paterson quipped to City & State last year about the forms of sabotage to employ against a governor when he hosted the meeting. After all, the lieutenant governor mainly waits for something to happen to the head honcho so they can step in – much like Gov. Kathy Hochul did when the pressure became too much for former Gov. Andrew Cuomo to bear.

For Delgado, the trip will also be something of a homecoming, and a potentially awkward one at that. He left his vulnerable seat in Congress last year to become Hochul’s No. 2, while the redistricted 19th Congressional District is now held by Republican Rep. Marc Molinaro. A spokesperson for Delgado said that he would meet with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries while in D.C.
