Editor’s note: The party’s over at Gracie Mansion
We regret to inform you, but New York City Mayor Eric Adams is not having a holiday celebration for reporters this year.

The invitations to press outlets for New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ annual holiday party at Gracie Mansion aren’t going out this year. Not even for one last time before the one-term mayor leaves office. “Unfortunately the mayor’s timing doesn’t allow for a party this year. He wishes everyone celebrating a joyous holiday season, and a happy new year,” a City Hall spokesperson told City & State.
It’s no surprise. Adams, always the world traveler, ramped up his overseas schedule during his final weeks in office, and much of it on the city’s dime. It’s also not that surprising, given his increasingly acrimonious relationship with the press. Adams even soured on some journalists so much, like Daily News City Hall reporter Chris Sommerfeldt, that he now refuses to take his questions at press conferences. Fortunately, there are many holiday celebrations this time of year. So, Adams’ Gracie Mansion festivities, featuring all-vegan hors d’oeuvres, won’t be missed much. The skits put on by the mayor and reporters, however, were clever, giving Adams an opportunity to take potshots at the press, but in a fun and festive way. “Jeff ‘gotcha’ Coltin!” he yelled when inviting the Politico (and former City & State reporter) up to the stage for one performance. Coltin, in another, showed up wearing a costume rat head. City & State kept a souvenir from one of the skits: a 2024 calendar featuring the mayor doing a hand hearts every month. There wasn’t much more to gain from the holiday celebrations, which largely gathered journalists and communications personnel from various city agencies. Still, happy holidays, Mayor Adams.
