On June 20, the candidates for New York’s 13th Congressional District will come face to face to debate the most critical issues facing the constituents who have been represented by Rep. Charles Rangel for the past 45 years. Rangel, who is the second-longest currently serving member of the House of Representatives, announced that he would not run for re-election in 2016, opening the floodgates for 10 candidates to enter the race.

The 90-minute debate, hosted by City & State in partnership with NY1 and the Latino Leadership Institute, will be televised live on NY1 and moderated by political reporter and “Insider City Hall” host Errol Louis. The participating candidates will field questions from City & State Opinion Editor Nick Powell, New York Nonprofit Media Editor Aimée Simpierre and NY1 News/NY1 Noticias’ Juan Manuel Benitez.

The debating candidates include:

  • Suzan Johnson Cook, former U.S. ambassador-at-large
  • State Sen. Adriano Espaillat
  • Mike Gallagher
  • Assemblyman Guillermo Linares
  • Former Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell IV
  • Clyde Williams, former political director of the Democratic National Committee
