32BJ Backs Justin Wagner

Justin Wagner, a Democratic candidate for the state Senate, will have the backing of 32BJ SEIU as he takes another shot at winning state Sen. Greg Ball’s district, which covers parts of Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties.

Wagner said in a statement that he was “honored” to win the endorsement of the 145,000-member property service union and that they share key policy goals, including a higher minimum wage.

Wagner gave Ball a tough race in 2012, and this year Ball decided not to run for reelection, instead endorsing fellow Republican Terrence Murphy, a Yorktown councilman.

“The members of 32BJ are proud to endorse Justin Wagner for New York’s 40th State Senate District because he stands for raising the minimum wage, creating jobs, and keeping families safe,” said John Santos, vice president and district director for 32BJ’s Hudson Valley district. “Justin’s commitment to struggling families, his understanding of the issues affecting working people, and his commitment to fight for all New Yorkers are what make him the clear choice in the race for State Senator in Hudson Valley.”
